A partners desk, also spelled in the possessive as a partner’s desk, is an antique-style desk which basically serves as two pedestal desks constructed into one larger desk conjoined at the front, allowing for two users to work while facing one another.
This piece of high end furniture was first conceived and crafted in the U.K. to accommodate the dual efforts of banking partners. These men were usually senior bank officials who desired to work together while keeping the organization, economy of space and the prestige of a pedestal desk. Its design holds to several adaptations of the library desk, found in the libraries of estates of nobles and upper class.
Many partners desks made in the 19th century to the present day are still built of the high quality woods, in particular oak as well as mahogany. The AntiquePurveyor’s antique reproduction partners desks are built in beautiful mahogany for its rich color accentuated with a red or brown mahogany finish. Premium mahogany desks offered here will have oak drawers and higher price points. Traditional mahogany partners desks will have leather desktops and brass hardware.
